Jeanann S. Boyce Memorial Page
Dr. Jeanann S. Boyce of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Laurel, Md.., passed away suddenly at home Saturday, July 8, 2017.
She was a citizen of the world and renowned speaker on ethical issues in exponential technologies and cybersecurity. Jean traveled extensively through Europe, Russia, Indian subcontinent, Australia, the Far East, and the South Pacific. She was a partner in Pendragon Productions, an off-off Broadway theatre.
Although she lived many years in New England, upstate New York and Maryland, her most recent residence was in Rehoboth Beach. She was an active participant in the community and professional circles, including FBLA, PBL, CISSE, ISBE, ASME, the American Wine Society and the YMCA.
Jean was born in Perth Amboy, N.J., daughter of the late John Jr., and Anna (Janocko) Stefanik. She graduated from Woodbridge High School. She obtained her bachelor's degree in English literature from Douglass College ('69). She went on to obtain master's degrees in both English literature and education and a doctoral degree in education from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.
She did postgraduate work at Cornell University, and she was a faculty member with the State University of New York. She held faculty appointments at the University of Maryland, Johns Hopkins University, Marshall University, Bowie State University, Morgan State University and University of Phoenix. Most recently, she taught at Montgomery Community College and Delaware Technical Community College.
She is survived by a son, Lee Boyce and his fiancé Julie Amato of Mountain View, Calif.; her fiancé, John T. Wood of Gilford, N.H.; sister, Linda MacDonald Glenn and husband Kim Garrett Glenn of Monterey, Calif.; brother Dr. Roy Michael Stefanik and wife Kathy of Warrenton, Va.; nieces, Katharine Glenn, Nichole Burkholder and Mallory E. McLaren; as well as nephews, Michael John Stefanik and Joseph Patrick Stefanik.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, July 22, at 11 a.m., in St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, where visitation will be held after 9 a.m. There will be a wake at noon, and burial at 5 p.m., at Epworth Cemetery in Rehoboth.
Friends and family plan to continue to celebrate Jean's life and to honor the ideals for which she lived, including promoting ethics at the intersection of science, technology, business and human rights.
